WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 1, 2008) – Leonard Smith, a highly regarded American Indian business leader based in Montana, has been appointed to NAC’s National Advisory Board.

“NAC is extremely fortunate that Leonard Smith has agreed to assist us by serving on our National Advisory Board.  Leonard is a national leader in tribal business development and has particular expertise in the area of Federal contracting.  We plan on calling on Leonard to assist us in finding and reviewing excellent tribal businesses that might benefit from our capital and expertise,” said Joe Falkson, NAC’s senior managing director.  NAC, LLC is a Native American merchant/investment bank and private equity fund manager committed to American Indian economic growth and development.  The firm targets high growth investment opportunities throughout Indian Country—with a special focus on infrastructure, real estate, the environment, health care, education, and commerce.

Mr. Smith is an enrolled tribal member of the Assiniboine & Sioux Tribe of the Ft. Peck Reservation in Montana.  He is the founder and executive director of the Native American Development Corporation (NADC), based in Billings, MT.  As CEO of a tribal owned business he organized business strategies and developed strategic partnerships for profitability and job creation. Mr. Smith also organized spin off companies using the Small Business Administration 8(a) program as a business strategy to create income generating businesses on several reservations through strategic alliances with private sector businesses.  Mr. Smith was also the Deputy District Director of the U. S. Small Business Administration Montana Office.   Mr. Smith has received many awards from the Small Business Administration, Economic Development Administration, and other federal, state and private organizations for his work in economic development.
