Joseph L. Falkson, Ph.D., MBA, , Native American Capital, LP (NAC) Senior Managing Director to discuss Native American Capital : New Partnerships in Academic Entrepreneurship on November 30th

Iowa City, IA  (November 15, 2006) –  Joe Falkson, a nationally-recognized community economic development expert based in Washington, DC, will describe the origins, purposes, and possibilities of Native American Capital, LP, the first national venture capital and merchant banking firm dedicated to business and economic development throughout Indian Country.  Utilizing a variety of investment concepts and models, Falkson will discuss opportunities for strategic partnering and investing with the 600 Federally recognized American Indian Tribes and Alaska Native Villages; challenges and methods to overcome them; and the unique and heretofore untapped resource represented by centers of academic excellence seeking innovative ways to develop their intellectual property and pursue new venues for entrepreneurism.

“American Indian Tribes are America’s own internal developing nation,” says Falkson.  “Over the past 30 years, through a combination of Federal investments and incentives and highly innovative partnerships with American business and industry, some Native American communities have experienced rapid and significant economic growth.  At the same time, many tribal communities remain mired in poverty.  America’s universities and academic research centers could play a major role in ensuring that this growth continues and spreads throughout Indian Country.”
